Sometimes We Are Our Own Worst Enemy

What is the one thing that gets in the way of our own success? The answer is: You. You either think you can or think you can’t. Playing golf competitively taught me this. If you think you can then you can. We find plenty of excuses to give up or even quit. It is natural to want instant gratification. Anything worth having doesn’t come easy.  Quitting doesn’t solve anything and in fact can cause us to become depressed, insecure or even negative.

Whether it is playing a sport, buying a house, planning your future, starting something new, here are 3 things that you should do before, during and after starting something big.

  1. Before you start know that you will and plan to finish what you start! But where do you start? Don’t do it alone unless you absolutely have to. Build your team. Find people who can coach you or teach you how to do what it is you want to do or learn.

  2. If you fail the first time DON’T GIVE UP! Keep trying but don’t keep doing it the same way if it isn’t working. Get feedback, read, listen and try it from a different angle.

  3. You are not competing with anyone. Don’t compare yourself to anyone. Your success is not measured in what others think or say about you. As the saying goes… “People’s opinions of you are none of your business”.

And lastly timing is everything so if you feel frustrated or keep getting a “no” then it is OK to press the pause button temporarily. There is power in the waiting; pray on it and keep learning. You will know when the timing is right. And you never know. The waiting may just make you more prepared, determined and savvy enough to not only meet you goal or exceed them.

Cheers to you and “starting from scratch”!
